Activities
The module includes four essential courses aiming to enhance the understanding of the unique EU design and of the specific rights and obligations that the EU states and their citizens gain through membership.
The courses The Institutions of the European Union and Public Policies of the European Union are intended to provide a better understanding of the way the EU works. They aim to explain the logic of the EU design by describing the functions and competences of each European institution, the functioning of the European institutional system and the specific relations and interactions between the subnational, national and supranational levels in the elaboration of public policies.
The courses European Citizenship and The Fundamental Rights and Freedoms. The Values of the European Union are more specific, concentrating on the rights and obligations that derive from European citizenship, the relation between human rights and citizenship, including the specific manner in which citizenship ensures the full exercise of these rights and as well as focusing on the international mechanisms designed to protect citizens and their rights and generate consensus between different cultural identities.
The module also includes three roundtable debates (one in each year) on the latest developments on EU related issues. Alongside with the high school teachers and university professors participating in the project, these debates will involve other acknowledged experts in the field.
