CASE interns at the "European Week" (A.I. Cuza University in Iasi)

On 9 May, Europe Day was celebrated in the European Union through various cultural, educational or scientific events. Therefore, between the 13th and 14th of May, the seventh Jean Monnet Annual Conference took place at the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University from Iaşi. The event was organized by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Studies during the „European Week”.

At the Students’ Scientific Session on European Studies, the Academic Club of European Studies was represented by four of its interns, students at the Faculty of Political Science (National School of Political Studies and Public Administration): Andrada Baraţă, Alexandra Coravu, Ioana Borcan and Luiza Soare. The works presented by the intern addressed issues related to civil society, the decision-making role of national parliaments, the rise of the European Union as an important global actor, or to the newly formed institutions after the Lisbon Treaty.

In addition to representing CASE in a National Conference by presenting their work in front of other students at bachelor and master programs, and of the scientific committees consisting of professors and PhDs, our interns’ work was appreciated by the jury. The paper „The national parliaments before and after the Lisbon Treaty. Analyzing Romania’s case” brought to Alexandra Coravu (second year student specializing in Political Science) the Second Prize. Moreover, for the paper „European External Action Service – a unique voice for the European Union?”, Ioana Borcan (third year student specializing in International Relations) received mention. However, this is only the beginning. In the future, we hope to support them in getting even more awards.

Academic Writing Training Course

The training is intended to familiarize the students with the academic writing norms. Using the Chicago Manual of Style, the students are taught how to avoid plagiarism by correctly citing the information sources used in their academic papers. The skills and information offered through the training are useful to both first year students, who are confronted for the first time with the academic rigors, as well as for older students and even MA students, as the training explains the way to correctly cite in a variety of cases, from the simplest like a book with one author, to the most complex, like books and articles without authors, electronic publications, speeches and lectures, CD materials etc.

This training course is repeated periodically.
